Foot and Ankle Pain

When things are irritated, anything from putting your foot down on the foot in the morning to long distance running can be painful.

Plantar fasciitis

Pain at the bottom of your heel, often sore when taking first few steps out of bed or standing up if you've been sitting for a while.

Tendon pain

Achilles, tibialis posterior, peroneal, flexor hallucis longus and tibialis anterior are the most commonly irritated tendons. Often caused by a relatively sudden increase in activity such as walking or running.

Ankle sprains

Can happen to anyone; rolling an ankle off a kerb or twisting playing sport. Pain will settle with time but important to get back the original strength and flexibility to reduce the chances of re-injury.

Avulsion fracture

Can sometimes happen in a high grade ankle sprain where a torn ligament can take a piece of the ankle bone with it.

Stress fracture

Can happen through overuse, typically in runners.
