Back pain
Pain turning in bed? Sore picking up the kids? Difficulty getting comfortable with sitting or driving?
Disc herniation / disc bulge
Can give you pain into your lower back, usually slightly to one side and can travel down into your buttock(s). May have happened lifting something heavy or even just bending over to pick something up off the floor?
Lumbar radiculopathy
Or commonly called a 'trapped nerve' or sciatica. Usually caused when a disc is irritating the nerve. Can present as leg pain alongside back as well as sometimes pins and needles or numbness down the leg even into the foot or toes.
Degenerative disc disease
Will happen to most of us as we get older; it's almost a sign of ageing like grey hairs and wrinkles. May present as stiffness in your lower back but can have a knock on effect on the joints and discs around your spine.
Facet joint changes
These are the joints either side of your central spine area. Can present as stiffness or soreness into a localised area or often refer down in your buttock(s).
Muscle spasm
Usually happens when pushing your body too much - over exertion, lifting heavy, something that it's not used to doing.
